History:
Bought back in 2003, system has always been loud due to stock CPU HSF and stock 80mm fans. Warranty expired, so decided ot overclock. Just used Asus's multiplier bios setting and went to 3.4GHz. Ran like this for a week before I decided to get a better CPU HSF to get cooler temps and lower noise. Changed HSF to Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu (hey it was cheap and going on an old computer). 2 days later, motherboard won't post. Found that 1 of my dimms were bad. Sent back to Crucial and replaced with some generic 1Gig PC2-5300 RAM. Received new RAM and installed, but won't post (tried every slot using just 1 dimm, and every configuration). Generic ram works fine in any slot.
Reset the bios multiple times, forced voltage and timings, upgraded BIOS. The only time I can get the motherboard to post is when the generic ram is installed with ONE of the crucials (slot doesn't matter). The only configuration I can get BOTH crucials to post is when the generic is in slot A2 and the crucials are in B1 and B2. I have verified that the crucial memories work by putting them in another computer (although not in dual channel).
