Why my computer programs diappeared

Hello,
all of my programs, except for 3, icons, pictures, and documets disappeared when I booted up my this morning. My system started up like it was a new system, and my system restore was turned off! What do you think happened?

I think recover and back up your files, then update antivirus and scan the entire computer.
Might be malware, virus...might be the result of a bad software update. This is why I leave my updates turned off.
