Best (RUFF & TUFF)Brands for Hard Disks

Hey Folks, Which Brands of Hard drives u can swear on amongst SEAGATE, WD,HTACHI,BUFFALO, LACIE, MAXTOR, SANDISK,TRANSCEND etc? Give ur choice ranking wise!!By d way does Sandisk manufacture HD? Does any of above brands remove HD external casing w/o bundled HD in 3.5"" as wll as in 2.5" form

no matter which brand, EVERY manufacturer experiences dead disks. so some people base their decisions on only their bad experiences with a certain brand (ie, I will never buy xxx brand again because mine died). so take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt.

personally, I only buy 2 brands of hdds. Seagate and Western Digital in that order. (I have a 150gb raptor, and all of my data drives are seagate 400gb, 2x300gb, 1.5tb)

Indeed. Plus something other than the HD (power supply, power surge, bsod, spilled coffee) can cause a HD corruption. Best thing is to mitigate with backups or mirror raid. I use Norton Ghost and an external hard drive. One of my HDs got corrupted just a cpl weeks ago and I had it restored in under 30 minutes. Also, if size is not an issue look into SSD drives.
