Q6700 or E8600

Q6700 or E8600? That is the question.

I want to overclock and am having trouble with my Q6700 processor, it wont go past 3ghz without crashing the computer. I use the computer mainly for gaming and watching the odd blu-ray so multiple programmes is not an issue. I am wondering if an E8600 dual core would be as good as the Q6700, what the benefits of Quad over Dual are etc.

You're doing something wrong. Even the highest vid q6700 can oc far beyond just 3ghz.

On older non-quad thread programs, similarly clocked quads will be faster than dual. The gap is not big. If you can get dual to run about 200mhz faster, it'll generally outperform quad on non multithreaded programs.

Settings:
9x multiplier, 1.45 vcore, 1600mhz fsb, no chipset voltage increase, ddr2 800mhz, 1:1 ratio.
