Windows mail download email client

Hello,
what are the possible reasons why the mail box whe opened switch off my network connection when receiving mail

Can't think of any reasons at all, exactly what happens when you download the mail? How do you know the network connection is off? Does it disable the network card? You can't go to any web pages?
