I just read the review of the 5550 and I think it over simplified the costs of printing with an HP printer. The rules of the game are fairly simple. If you are going to print more than a handful of pages a week, DON'T buy the cheap printer. Lets look at the black printing cost differences between a deskjet 940 and 960. Both printers have similar capabilities. The 940 sells for about $149 and the 960 for about $199.

Consider this:

Black cart#25 for a Deskjet 940 costs about $30.
Black cart#45 for a Deskjet 960 costs about $30.

By the time the deskjet 940 user is on their 10th cartridge they have spent almost 300 dollars in ink and recieved 250 ML of ink in total.

The 960 user on the other hand has spent only 180 dollars (on 6 larger cartridges) and has recieved slightly more ink in the process. This means the 960 user has saved 120 dollars over the 940 user.

The price difference in the two otherwise similar printers is about 50 dollars.
