Quite a bit faster. The sequential reads are 1.5-2 times the speed (current best are the Seagate Cheetah 15k.7, at >170 MB/s sequential), and the randoms are easily double as well (access time ~5ms or even a bit less). They are loud however, and you do need a specific SAS controller.

Faster but not as fast as an SSD by far. I think even the Western Digital VelociRaptor HDD's are as fast. I'm not sure, their 500rpm slower than the Scuzzy drives.
