Hello, i just purchased a q6600 cpu, i have in on a ga35-d3sl board in a antec p182 case with 4 fans.  My problem is that when the computer start up the cpu fan doesnt kick in a first, in fact it's the last to kick in. Im using a 750 watt corsair psu, so i know ive got enough power, but this is perplexing me, the fan was actually running at 876 rpm in bios at one point.  On another note, i have never had such a frustrating build in all my life, my dvd drive are both grinding(one was doing it when on my sther system) and the 2nd dvd drive wont show up anymore, oh' and i had to reinstall windows like 4 times because i kept getting some i386 message that needed me to insatll the sp2 disc(which was already in).  I know this probably sounds like gibberish, but im tired and frustrated

When the thermal fan control feature (I don't know what Gigabyte's special name for that is, many manufacturers do name it as if they want to imply it's still some special feature when it's common on newer boards) is set to throttle fan based on temp, the CPU being cooler when system starts will cause the fan to spin slower or even not start spinning yet.

If you find the result of your bios setting allows the fan to always spin up (and not make a whining noise which some do when spinning too slow) instead of staying stalled, there's nothing you need to change.

What's so frustrating?  Beyond having to (maybe) tweak the memory related settings, maybe only install one module to get the board posted and then set memory voltage as needed for the next reboot at higher speed, then powering off AC to add the rest of the memory and maybe set the MCH voltage up a notch or two becaues you have multiple modules and you should be all set - unless you're trying to overclock which of course means you take all the rest of the settings changes upon yourself.

Intel builds used to be easier too, there are more settings available due to consumer demand and features supported by chipsets these days.

I have the same board i use a water block for cpu but i have my NB fan plugged into the cpu fan and it also does that, i would say about 5 to 10 seconds before it starts turning but i in  no way would think that would hurt anything as not enough temp yet. I cant tell you why it does this but looks normal IMO.

Thanks, I still have to figure out why my dvd drive are acting crappy, any idea's on that, or why i had to keep reinstalling windows, ive been building pc's for over twenty years this is the worst build ever.

I have an old S3 and my cpu fan doesnt start spinning until about 10 seconds after the computer is already running.  Maybe this is normal?  Are you having some issue with this, because I have no issues?

It's not a problem. If you don't like it then disable CPU "Smart FAN Control" in "Health". I did, I don't mind the noise and want maximum cooling. I have a 120mm 1600 RPM fan though, not the stock one which is noisier.

why two dvd drives, are they ide or sata?

I've got two, one DVD-RW and one plain DVD. It makes it easier to copy a DVD/CD. No, not illegal copying, I frown on that.

They are ide, and dvd drives are so cheap why not have 2 instead of one and a combo drive

If you listen to the industry, even personal backups are "illegal" ;) If there is such a thing...

Not personal backups of my own data and GNU software. I don't disk copy that often. Oh, and they can pound sand on the personal back up thing, even though I don't do it.
