How to remove one xp where dual xp is present

I resently formated my c drive and when I reinstalled windows xp I booted up c and found I now have 2 xp os's.

Have you used a disc utility to examine your partitions? If the second xp was installed on a seperate or new partition you can remove one. I would guess when you formated your drive the partition with the os wasn't erased. Did you boot up from a different drive with the drive in question set as a slave when you formated this HDD?

edit boot.ini and remove the unwanted xp install ( removes it from the boot list)

then the fun part of manually cleaning the duplicate files off the drive.
