Looking for reliability

I need a new hard drive to abuse, but I can't tell which ones are the most reliable. I need it to transfer large files 10gb+ and run for 24 hours a day. 1TB size would be enough. Do I need a server class hard disk to put up with this, or can anyone recommend a reliable desktop hard drive? And is there a trick to keep it alive during incessant use?

WD velociraptor series is about as close you can get to server class reliability and speed. Comes only in a 150 and 300GB flavor. 4 of those and a good hardware raid controller would prolly be what you need. Do you have a budget?

Western Digital RE3 series looks like exactly what I need. Thanks everyone.

For longevity, keep the drives well ventilated and cool.

Also, try to put the source and target files on different drives. This will help performance. It will also help longevity by reducing the amount of large arm movements.
