Started looking at computer parts and learning how to build a new PC since november and gonna buy a new PC march and still learning I know some parts maybe be not good because im on a budget. I was on a $1000 budget when i started but now my PC cost $1200 now but i made $250 very easily this week. I know what to get when i get more money so yeah... i just want you guys thoughts and all.
By the way, last time, somebody said something about my memory's voltage.. I dont remember so can someone explain whats wrong or whatever? Another thing is, whats the 1st thing i do after i put my parts together and press the start button for the 1st time?
The powersupply in that case is a little less than desirable (about a dozen people will chime in on this). Suggest ditching that power supply and picking up either.
Ultra power supplies are notorious on dying prematurely and taking out componets at the same time (I've had two die on me). In addition, do you plan on sli in the future? If you do then pick up the 750 PCPower instead otherwise both power supplies from above are more than enough for a single card solution.
Also, with the ram if I recall correctly that ram boots on 2.2 volts which the motherboard may or may not boot on. If it does boot it will probably boot on 1.8v with eased timing and on a lower frequency; if thats the case you will have to go in the bios and up the frequency and tighten the timings back up. If you want some full proof stuff pick up a couple sticks of corsair, but the ocz are just as good (just a matter of preference).

The cpu/mobo/case/psu deal is good, but the psu is a ?. Go with a 500W Corsair/Antec if you can.
If the ram won't post, try each stick in each of the slots until it posts, then set up bios to specs. particularly the vdimm to 2.1v. The 680i board has a tendency to overvolt the ram. i.e. you set it to 2.2v, but the board may up it to 2.3-4v which can destroy the ram. Just a notch lower than specs is good.
i have another question how much watts does my PC currently take up??? how many watts does the evga 8800 gts 512 g92 take up??? how much does another evga 8800 gts 512 g92 take when i SLI???
i did some research and found this: http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cI [...] geID=3310. now.. im not really smart with complex computer things but does it says the default voltage is 2.5v??? but look at the 7th page's last screenshot and you would see the memory see at 1.8v. so i guess the memory im getting is alright?
and for this thermal grease... does it come with the CPU fan or you have to buy some... can someone recommend me 1???
@slickjr169, really?? to me, ultra's power supplies look very nice and they are modular... i read reviews on the PSU im getting and they seemed fine so, ill take a chance. and ill probably wont SLI for years.
@akhillies, what you mean by destroying the ram? i dont get it.

Ultras have never given me a problem but if you are going to OC that quad I would suggest a better PSU. Quads seem to be very sensitive to adequate clean stable power output. Your call.
Os- there has been a few issues for what i have read when you upgrade xp to vista. rather then loading a new version of vista. Also i would say wichever you get of vista make sure it is the 64 bit. i have a friend that works for microsoft and he tells me the same thing. The only one he has found with the lest about of bugs is the vista ultimate 32/64 bit full virsion. the cost is still high, unless you do know someone who works for microsoft =)
the combo you are getting is good, i personaly wouldnt go less then 700 watts for a psu.
I havnt read anyone having major issues with the 680 or 780i mobo. i just find becasue its no asus or some other major brand people think they are trash. but its funny how everyone loves nivida chip sets now, but wehn they happened to be new to market no one trusted them.
also i would start with 1 vid card, see how it gose then add a second later in time if you feel it is needed. Also what kind of monitor will you be running or thinking about running?
i have question but no one will answer T_T but what i really want to know is how much power (watts) would my Pc take up and how much does my video card take up.. then i need someone to clarify that my RAM will work on my motherboard

im just gonna stay with my OS for now yeah, im gonna go with 1 video card for now.. im just asking how mcuh watts would a seocnd one take. im running on a 17 inch princeton monitor i got in 2003 and its not widescreen.
The ocz ram is rated at 2.1v. Don't blame me if you burn out the memory by giving it exactly 2.1v, but the mobo ups it to 2.2-4-5-6, etc. 680i is prone to do that. No mobos will give the parts exactly what you set in bios. There'll always be some discrepancy. Like my board, I set vcore to 1.4v, but the bios reads 1.368v something.
To get the right psu, look at the psu requirements of the video card. Don't look at newegg's disinformation. Google for the manufacturer's site like evga.com.
