Hello, my volume and icon disappeared from my windows xp after a trip to repair shop. Must I return my desktop or can I fix?

you can look up your computer on the manufacturer's website, download and install the audio drivers.
Or you can return it to the repair shop.

Save your self a trip downtown. Click:

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices

See the picture below on what to do next. Click Ok when done.

There have actually been a number of XP systems that have had the audio driver erased after updating.
That's why I mentioned it.
After this erase occurs, you can't open the audio controls, as shown above.
