get the Q6600, or the Q9300/9450 if you're not gaming...
heatsink - depends on your needs... if youi need to OC, you can't really get better than the thermaltake ultra-120... otherwise, consider the Zalman CNPS9700LED, oir the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro...
Mobo is good...
Ram, try G.Skill, OCZ, Corsair, or Ballistyix
for Video, i suggest you go with ATI; maybe an HD3870... ATI have generally better HD features than Nvidia...
HD, try the Samsung SpinPoint T, with 500GB; it's got really quick seek times and will help you keep those big files better

someone else can refine the choices but that ought to be a good starting point

what's your budget, and what currency are you using?

I agree w/ amd_fanboi on CPU, cooler, Mobo, RAM.

If budget permits, and you're planning a 64-bit O/S, consider increasing RAM to 4 or more GB. That shd help with your video editing and blue prints. If only 32-bit, don't go more than 3 'cause you won't see it anyway.

A 3870 might be overkill since you're not gaming. Maybe a 3850. Maybe less than that even. If you're doing 3D work, you'll want one of the professional GPUs b.c. they support the 3D software with different features than what are used by a typical game.

If MINO, consider a matrix array of 2 x 750 GB WD AAKS (or stick with the spinpoints) with 100 GB RAID 0 for temp/work/scratch space and 700 GB (or 450) RAID 1 for O/S, programs and data files (in 50 GB, 650/400 GB partitions, possibly). That way, if a drive fails you'll be able to get back to work quickly, but you'll have the added benefit of very high R/W throughput for the video editing. I'm operating under the impression that data throughput is at least as important as latency for video editing; if I'm wrong, you're better off with a Raptor or SSD if $ available. Check the THG charts for more info.

EVGA or XFX GeForce 8600GT 512MB

Samsung SH-S203B SATA

(Get the "Retail" version of the optical drive in order to get software with it. This will include the decoder you'll need to watch movies on it.)

Thanks for all your help,I will not do much gaming so do you think I should wait or need the Q9450. Does anyone know what the Q9450 will sell for? Do you think the E8400 would work great for me, I could learn how too OC it a bit with your help. You guys have been a great help on input for this.

it'll be more than the q6600, and if the E8400 is anything to go by, then the price will be jacked up and it'll be in short supply...

don't go dual core, if you aint gaming... the extra cores will help with your vid editing...

and not to be pushy, decide now, if you want to OC... cos if you are, i say the q6600, and if not, i say the 9450... also, if you are, then you'll need a really good cooler - quads will produce a LOT of heat...

by the way, i am basing these sentiments on the xbit article on the q9300... and it didn't convince me that it is a great chip...
