I've been researching components for a new build, and I was considering adding a Blu-ray drive to the mix. The problem is, in the past, there were no video cards that supported HDCP over dual link DVI. My monitor, the 30" Dell, requires a dual link DVI input. So, even though the video cards may have supported HDCP, it was only with single-link DVI. In other words, I'd have to drop the resolution on the monitor to watch an HD movie (lame and a pain-in-the-butt).
On the new system I'm building, I'm considering using a couple HD3870 cards in a Crossfire configuration. The specs for the HD3870 say that the cards have two dual-link DVI ports and that "Each includes a dual-link HDCP encoder with on-chip key storage for high resolution playback of protected content."
To me, that SOUNDS like I would now be able to play Blu-ray movies on my monitor without having to lower the resolution, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has any first-hand experience with this.
