Hello people, i was just wondering if you could help me, i currently need a new rig as the one i have now just isnt up to par with the lastest software really these are my specs :

All at stock speeds.

Amd 64 x2 3800+ - Processor
ECS KN1 SLI - motherboard
2GB  (**** make) - Memory
250GB Harddrive
80gb Harddrive
580w Hiper - PSU
PNY Geforce 7600GT - Graphics Card

I can play Crysis on 1280x1024 all on high with no AA and i get around 4-6 fps, which isnt pretty bad for my system.
Im hoping to play on 1280x1024 Most on Ultra High 4xAA with a playable framerate, which i know is really hard to do, but with some overclocking and modding i think its possible.

Now i have around £500 to spend on some upgrades, i need a new case as the one im using now the front has fallen off lol.

So can i have some help please with upgrading my system.

Thanks people.

Keep the power supply - its not bad and will power a quad core

Buy the following -

Intel P35 chipset motherboard   - preferable ASUS, Gigabyte   - about 65 ish
Intel Q6600                                                                                            150 ish
2GB RAM - OCZ 800                                                                                60 ish
Antec 900 case - good value for what it is                                             70-80
Nvidia 8800GT                                                                                        150 ish

will be about 500 including the vat

if you can stretch a bit youll get a samsung 750 gb hard drive for less than 100 inc vat too.
they have 32mb of cache !!!!!

im in the business... so i just got these recently from suppliers

PS im in the uk too, essex to be precise :)

Thanks for your reply hellboy :D im from Bolton lol,

ermm well i have been looking into a few parts,

im gonna go with :

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 SLACR, Kentsfield Core, Socket 775, 2.40 GHz 1066MHz 8MB Cache, Retail

2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12

Antec 900 case

Need a crossfire able motherboard

512MB Asus HD 3870 PCI-E 2.0 (x16), 2250 MHz, GDDR4, GPU 775 MHz, 320 Streams, 2 x DVI-I

500 GB Maxtor STM3500320AS DiamondMax 22, SATA II, 7200 rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.5 ms, NCQ

So i need some ideas for the motherboard and i now i think i might as well by a new dvd drive as that is everything i need, now ive only built a system once but i had someone help me with it, do all the required wires come with everything?

Thanks.
also is everything i have chosen any good?

Do not go for Maxtor hard disks

go for either a Western Digital or a Samsung...

take my word for it Maxtor are the worst hard disk drives ever

The rest is ok, but I prefer Nvidia - have better software support - in the TWIMTBP and is faster than the 3870 ( the single one that is )

All Intel mobos with 2 pci x 16 slots are SLI capable, nvidia just will not release the driver for it because SLI is Nvidia's baby..

you could go for the new Nvidia 750 chipsets comming out which aint bad either

but Crossfire has its issues and its not for me.

Most sli rigs / cross fire rigs are unecessary to be honest im still playing bf2142 on a 7800 gtx....

If you can afford it, go with a evga or a asus based 780 Nvidia chipset, the 790 chipset is soon to be released too so that might be worth an looking at....

The benefits of Nvidia over anyone else is SLI as Nvidia will not release the rights to Intel or anyone else....

Why Intel dont just buy Nvidia, I am sure this might happen in time....

Not sure why you want SLI, but it would only be useful for high resolutions and only if you buy right away. In 6-12 months from now most single GPU's will be better than a SLI rig today, unless you buy the top end GPU's today. I'd recommend saving the $ on the mobo and put that into a good  GPU, like a 8800gts (g92) or a 3870x2. Get something like a Gigabyte DS3L/DS3R, Abit IP35-e (67 afther MIR at newegg), or Asus P5k series. Just my opinion, but you can decide what to do.
