I recently built a new system (E8400, Gigabyte X38 DS4, OCZ DDR2 800, Seagate 7200.11, 8800GTS 640mb, soundblaster, Vista Ultimate x64) I was able to boot, load the OS and install all the updates. When I was shutting down earlier tonight I had the "install updates then shut down" message. I clicked OK and left for the night. When I came home and turned on the computer I got the "windows shut down improperly" message and now I cannot boot into the OS even in safe mode. Bios = F1.

Any suggestions on a fix.

p.s. I tried to reinstall the OS but it will not let me.

I would probably try to reformat the drive (if it lets you). Then try reinstalling it.

Fix - corrupted OS on last update. Booted to OS install CD and restored to previous working version. The OS was corrupted shortly after my son used his IPOD with the new computer. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Glad you're able to fix it. Not really too sure why it corrupted unless power was interrupted while it was powering down or something.

I wish I could tell you. I have since had another similar issue and it appears every time an apple device is connected and/or cell phone this happens. I connected my sons motorola razr so he could download some songs and it immediately crashed the OS requiring another restore.
