I'm at work right now and can't check this, but if I want to record to
DVD from a HD Tivo, do I have to change the output format on the Tivo
from 720 to 480? -RP

I don't know about your Tivo, but my satellite box continually outputs an
Svideo signal that I feed direct to the DVD recorder. It's there whether
I'm watching SD or HD (always in 480i, of course).

I have the DirecTV HD Tivo and get sound but no picture on the DVD
recorder using either s-video or rca plugs. -RP

You'd probably have to set it to output video on there in a menu
somewhere then. My sat box was designed by Motorola and they seem to
have at least got that part right. It downconverts the 1080i video to
480i all the time and it outputs 1080i or 480p on the component outputs
depending on what the satellite is actually sending for the channel.
