Dual Band Network With Two Routers

I was wondering if it was possible to set up a dual band network with two separate routers. I have cable internet which comes with a modem. Currently, that modem is hooked up to a Belkin Wireless G 2.4 Ghz router. I recently bought a new laptop which can use wireless N networks but my roommates are still using laptops with wireless G cards. So what I want to do is be able to use 5Ghz wireless N on my laptop while still having the 2.4Ghz wireless G set up for my roommates.

I thought this might be possible using a switch and two routers configured like:
Modem -> Switch -> both routers

Or would I have to do something like:
Modem -> Router -> Other Router
