The performance gained from having 2 card vs 1 card is not very significant. You will hardly notice the performance increase from having 2 cards in SLI.

I would go with these 2 as I have heard some bad things about Lite-On:

ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model DRW-2014L1T - Retail

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S203N - OEM

Samsung SH-S203B SATA

(Get the "Retail" version of one of the optical drives in order to get software with it. This will include the decoder you'll need to watch movies on it.)

If you go sli, get evga 780i or nothing.

IMO, go single card so you won't be limited by the mobo's expandability. The best one would be HD3870 X2.

If you do a/v encoding, a quad cpu will help. If it's a gaming pc, go dual core. Wolfies for the win!

yeah so this compter will mostly be gaming not much of a multimedia person and so the 780i over the an intel motherboard whether i sli or go for a single card?

If you want SLI the nvidia chipset is your only option. The single card will widen it and there are some really good motherboards on that side to look at as well.

No, if you go single card, get a P35 or better yet an X38 board that can overclock better than 6x0i/7x0i. Get 780i ONLY if you sli.

ASUS P5E is the affordable X38 board.
