I'm getting bored with my old 17" Acer TFT and popped down to a local PC store who said they could do me a deal on either the 20/22/24" Acer series. I'm not too bothered about using VGA, as I don't think the difference between it and VGA is that noticeable. I just can't decide out of the 3 which will be best. I like to run games at high settings and my spec is as you can see in my sig.
I am planning on going to a 790FX board, a Phenom and 3870X2's fairly shortly, and I'd ideally like to be able to run games like Crysis at fairly good settings at the native resolution. You think that is likely? :)
Many thanks!

i was thinking the same thing, i am going to be getting an upcoming 9800gt/gtx and need to upgrade my 17" samsung syncmaster 712N

i got a $150 gift card for best buy can someone check out these 20-22" LCD's and tell me whats best ? its the canadian best buy btw with 13% tax to be added, i am thinking the prices are too similar so might as well go for a 22" than a 20"
here is the link:

you don't want to use vga with an lcd, yuck.

still 24" is perfect size for a monitor IMO, viewing the forums in portrait mode right now due to the forum designer not having a clue how to actually design a forum. 1200 x 1920 looks great.

oh btw, the res really does kick the crap out of my ancient system, your going to need all the power you can get.
I use DVI monitors at work with 8800GTX's (they are 22") and there really isn't much in the way of display change really!
At least there wasn't for me! :)
I just want to be able to push games at full res (as I do now) and just wonder whether 1920x1200 on Crysis might struggle!
My housemate bought the 20" when we were there and it was really nice! The 22" is nice, but it's a shame the resolution isn't higher and the 24" is nice, I just can't decide if it is too big that and it may not fit on my desk! :D

I'm also going to get a new gaming monitor soon and I did alot of research.
Most people agree 24" is best, just try sitting in front of a bigger monitor or TV at the same distance as you would on your desk. You will find your self moving you head to see the whole screen. The 1900 res seems good for current games and the new videocards.

I'm getting a cheaper faster model, high colour etc is useless for gaming and very expensive. You are better of putting the money in multiple gpu's.

Probably the 400euro : http://www.iiyama.com/ms_GL/Product/category/2/product/27

I use VGA for one PC and DVI the other on same monitor to stop cable swapping. Both look just as good to me.

I recently got the new Sammy 245T and oh boy would I never go back again... It's costly, but worth every penny if you have a decent rig with it. :)

Just a heads up you can get about $100 for your 712N. I just sold my 710N on the Bay once I got my new Westinghouse L2140NM. If you going near 22" you might as well get the 24", I did I'm so glad I did. BTW BB is having a sale on the Westy I just mentioned, it's going for $350 which is a steal, I love mine and I recommend it.

1920x1200 is so much more amazing than 1600x1050.. It really makes a world of difference and its worth it. I currently have 3 24in and I cringe when I look over at my macbook pro's 15in...

I cant believe you would drop so much on a system like that and still be looking at a 17in screen... You have been missing out...

That, is exactly why I want to do with it!
After getting my GTX about 6 months ago (from a 256mb 6800GS) I really noticed the difference in graphics performance, the jump was enormous!!. I just want to be able to push the high resolution (1920x1200 would be luuuuverly!) and I want to run it at decent settings. Or at least have the option to! :)
I know the GTX is going to struggle with a few games at that resolution, but you think 3870X2's would cope?
Oh and, I bet my PowerBook 12" would be a worse jump, at 1024x768!

i wouldn't worry about being able to see the whole screen, that is why humans have peripheral vision.
I mean the literal size of the monitor! :)
I currently have my stereo next to my monitor (I run my stereo as the sound output) and I think I'll have to move the stereo to fit the 24"!
I think that's what I'll end up with though.
I mean, I don't have a problem with dropping a lot of money on my PC, I have been rather stupid with it recently!
