Is this correct?
If so a new computer would be better than spending money on a drive for such an old computer.
You are correct - an old 400MHz laptop. The laptop is only used for web surfing, nothing else - just need an OS and browser. Still think buying a laptop is the best choice (a new computer was being considered but buying a drive and imaging the current one seemed straight forward).
Only thing I can say is to try a mom and pop computer store and see what they say. If all you do is web surfing why do you need a bigger drive. XP will work on 6 gb. How well it works on a 400mhz cpu is another question.

Maybe the question is do I need a replacement drive, for fear that the current old drive will die soon. I thought an upgraded drive was the only way to go (rather that finding a new 6GB IDE drive).
