Keep entries in run command Vista

If I use msconfig or regedit there's a blank page the next time I get on and no record of what
i used. I used to use several more of these commands. What can I do?

Right-click Start orb > Properties >Start Menu
Select the box ' Store and display a list of recently opened programs'.
