Pfft $239! Newegg can go screw themselves.

The tray price of these chips are meant to be $163, which means it should be selling for $170 - $180 taking into account traditional levels of vendor markup, but $239 is just ridiculous.

its not so much gouging as it is supply and demand = explain

i am going to build a system i buy $1000 or $1500 in parts i want the newest cpu

newegg is saving the supply for such a customer, hence the one cpu limit. remember most of their customers are do it selfers and want the latest greatest.

intel can not supply enough 45nm cpu's and they need 2 for a quad

newegg does me right i by 1000's every month from them, i understand their position - in the end if i get faster and better service then more power to them.

the fact is that asian's now produce most of the pc's, the pc parts and new egg is part of the capitalist system they do it better and for less

Just ran benchmarks of Windsor 6400+ vs. Wolfdale e8200. Think again newegg. You were supposed to make money off me with the release of the Wolfdales. But at 240$ the Wolfdale is an unwise purchase. I am actually more pissed off by customers creating demand for overpriced CPU than I am by newegg. Newegg is only doing its job. It is idiots willing to buy at this price who are to blame. Get the 6400+ and spend the 70$ you save on a better Vcard. No Wolfdales will get bought by me till I see one below 180$.

Newegg is already showing out of stock for the E8200. WOW! Even at that price!

It is not Newegg's fault. Nor is it any retailer's fault. Something's worth is NOT based on the MSRP. Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And obviously, people are willing to pay alot for these chips, so they are worth more. Once the supply is up, and/or demand is down, prices will stablize.

I don't blame newegg. Nor do I blame Intel. It is just standard marketing strategy called "skimming", i.e., grab as much profit from higher-end buyers in an initial release, knowing that the gravy train will end shortly, and they will all be back to single digit margins. Any marketer worth their salt will be building their marketing strategy around the ability to do just this.

As consumers, the only one we could possibly blame is AMD. Intel couldn't use this strategy in the face of legitimate competitive pressure.

Why mess with the E8200 when you can get this, which is the same as the E8400? This is a decent deal. I ordered mine 2 days ago, and within 1 day, I had the FedEx tracking #!

Crap, I have no idea why I said "ran" benchmarks when what I meant to say was "checked" benchmarks. Sorry. The benchmarks are on TOMSHARDWARE'S CPU CHARTS 2007.

I paid less than that for my E8400.

The E8400 benchmarks are as ggod or better than the E6850 which sold for approx. $270 so it stands to reason that the E8400 should be around that price. If you want to know why the price went up all you have to do is try to find an E8400 that is available for immediate shipping.

Do some research, newegg is not the only place to shop. Simple Google search reveals it for $175.

Yea you can find them cheaper but is it a reputable place to buy it from. Probably not.

Do your search again and then check it at reseller ratings and you shall see. In the end it will end up costing you much more.

I know it is the nature of the beast but there is some real screwing over going on here. Believe it or not people do make somewhat important life decisions based on marketing projections. There was every reason months ago to believe that the the 8400 and definitely the 8200 would be under 200$. I told 4 people wanting to build new systems then not to do so yet, to wait on the Wolfdales. Two of them bought cheap Allendales to tide them over. If I would have known the 8400 was going to be almost 300$ I would definitely not have encouraged them to wait. Alot of people are feeling very pissed off right now. If I would have known this I would have gotten a damned e6750 4 months ago. I and others are thinking of building AMD based systems out of principle. Anybody who thinks the prices on the Wolfdales are going to come down any time soon is mistaken. This is so much freaking bull crap. Spare me the sermon on free enterprise.
