Transfer Backup from Smart Media Mem Plug to Palm Tungsten E

Our old Handspring Visor Prism recently crashed (literally) and we
have purchased a new Palm Tungsten E to replace it. We have used the
Smart Media Memory Plug for backing up the Prism since day one.
Unfortunately, the new Tungsten E uses MMC & SD media.

Using a smart card reader, I have downloaded the contents of the Smart
Media card to my Dell 4500 PC running Windows XP OS. We have tried to
transfer the backup data by placing the files in the Quick Install
folder of Palm Desktop and HotSyncing to the PDA – but keep getting
"Fatal Error" messages.

We have saved a bunch of data the Memory Plug and it is frustrating to
think that none of it can be saved. I have e-mailed the manufacturer
of the Mem Plug (Portable Innovations) with the problem, but have not
been able to get a response. Any suggestions would be sincerely
appreciated.

Have you tried just putting the SM and SD cards into the card
reader, and copying directly to the SD card? That should work.

Stan,

Thanks for the idea. I tried as you suggested and installed the files
under a directory titled PALM/LAUNCHER on an SD card, but no icon was
displayed on the "E".

Well, it doesn't quite work that way. On the T|E, select the
card in the launcher. Then you should see any apps on the card.
If you don't know how to do this, you need to read the fine
manual, which explains how to do it.
