pcie x16 and pcie 2.0 x16

i was just curious if i have a motherboard with a pcie 2.0 x16 slot can i place a graphics card pcie x16 in it? I am new to this and was just curious.

It won't run at the higher 2.0 bandwidth though, not that you'd need it.

Yes. Of course it won't run at the 2.0 bandwidth speeds, but thats okay. PCI-E 2.0 really isn't that much faster then PCI-E 1.1

Theoretical bandwidth on PCI-e2.0 doubles that of PCI-e1.1... which i would consider to be somewhat faster.

But at this stage GPU's arent fast enough to utilise the extra bandwidth.

The other difference is that PCI-e2.0 actually supplies more power through the interface than PCI-e1.1 does.
