Hi everyone, Im new here.  :hello:

This is my first time built my own PC. Really Im not into heavy gamer (well maybe little bit when Im bored), Only mostly I aim use for 3D model designer and photography.

Here I already brought half kit last weekend:-

MOBO :- Asus P5N-T Deluxe

CPU :- Core 2 Quad Q6600 retailer (include fan in box already)

Graphic Card :- Gainward Bliss Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 1024MB PCIe 2.0

RAM :- Corsair 4 x 1GB DDR2 1066MH PC2-8500 C5

Software :- OEM Window XP Pro 64 Edition SP2c

Plan to buy :-100GB HD sata, ATX Tower case, DVD rom, DVD RW and PSU

Take from old computer into new computer:- 250 HD Pata for slave drive and 17" TFT monitor

So I would like ask few question:-

1) Do you think I go for PSU 650W good enough? Recently I've read some suggest cheap PSU is not good. Any reason why?

2) Do I need 3.5 Flobby drive in case future something like backup install format summat ? I know flobby disk R.I.P.

Cheer thank
Jorvik  :)

650w is more than enough.

Asus P5N-T Deluxe  has only 1 IDE port which only support two devices. If you are planning to buy IDE DVD and DVD-RW, then there'll be no more room for your PATA HDD. But if you buy SATA DVD-RW, then you can use your PATA HDD.

Are you sure for 100GB HDD ? I don't know what kind of photography you do, but usually RAW images need lots of spaces same case on 3D rendering. But it's totally your call...

For the GPU, i think the 512MB version is enough for current games, i don't know exactly if 1GB GPU RAM will help in 3D rendering, but if you do choose the 512MB version, you can buy yourself bigger LCD (easier for your eyes :) )

Floppy disk drives may be nearly obsolete, but they're too cheap to not include one, and they can still be useful for some things.
Cheap PSUs are not good for a number of reasons, including:
1. output may not reliably be (or stay) within spec, stressing other components,
2. they may be WAY over-rated, likely to die if asked to put out anywhere near their claimed output,
3. when/if they fail, they are more likely to take other parts of your system with them, as they lack suitable protection circuits
4. they may be built with inferior components in general (causing #2 and leading to earlier #3).

For your system, choose a model from tier-3 or better (tier-2 if you can) from the list at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiere [...] gs?t=anon.
It appears that your system would be fine with a quality 450-550W PSU, unless you are planning to add a second graphics card for SLI or go for a high overclock.  You can figure out your requirements with the PSU calculator at http://www.extreme.outervision.com [...] rlite.jsp.
A 100GB drive is a somewhat unusual size, and small.  320GB is very common, or 250GB or 500GB depending on your space requirements.
On the optical drive(s), make sure that at least one of them is the Retail (rather than OEM) version, so it will include software, including the decoder you'll need to watch movies.

put in a floppy. it will help if you need to install drivers or so on

Look for a power supply with 23-24 amps on the 12v rails or more.
The information you need is on the label of the PSU.

The label of a cheap PSU will be inaccurate.  It will claim a certain output, possibly at an unrealistic 25C.  What it should say is that actually using 75% of that output while the temperature is a more reasonable 40C-50C will let the magic blue smoke out of it, and send an unregulated spike into your mobo and GPU.

I only use photo store in 2nd slave hard disk drive only - That what i plan take from old computer 250GB hard drive (fairly new) into new computer. So buy 100GB HD use for main drive for software etc. Maybe I try put up 320GB as jtt283 say common on. Depend on price, I will look out around shopping this weekend.

Huh oh, Thank that shop guy didn't tell me that. I didn't realise there only one IDE. Im sure other rest of new hardware must use sata from now use for DVD RW and Rom and Main hard drive.

Hey jtt283 - thank for advice and link to tier list. I find this interesting showed PSU list, Im think I sure happy with between 600W to 650W. Never know future expand stuff into computer. I try find good money on PSU. Still I dunno which brand model name will suit me. I'll look up read later tonight.

I decide go ahead buy Flobby disk with card reader.

About Overlock CPU - I have been thought about it increase up to 3.0Ghz  on CPU after read up here forum but Im might scary it may damage hardware But Im still thinking about it near future one day. I have no experince about this. Best leave it out for me now.  :sarcastic:
