I've calibrated Speedfan and Real Temp, but I wasn't able to lower my CPU voltage because as far as I know, my motherboard doesn't allow it. Is there a correction that I need to make to the calibration calculations? Would it really make that big of a difference? I have a Q6600 GO (VID 1.325).

It isn't a good idea to use software to change voltages. Go into your bios and do it manually. If that doesn't work post back here.

I looked in the manual for that mobo and it appears that the voltage isn't adjustable. :pfff:

Get CPUZ and check your actual Voltage on the CPU page.

Lowering the voltage will lower heat and power usage, but if your load temps are good and you can't change it easily, then I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Thanks for your replies and sorry for my late reply. I'm preparing to move and can only post late at night.

I wasn't very clear so I'll try again. Both Speedfan and Real Temp require lowering the cpu voltage and frequency. With my BIOS, I can raise the cpu voltage but I can't lower it. It really bites not being able to lower the voltage for the reasons Zorg stated.

With my stock VID of 1.325 and my CPU @ 3.0GHz my vdrop (idle) is 1.296-1.312 and vdroop (loaded Prime95 short fft's) is 1.264-1.272. I imagine it's not much of a difference if I lower the FSB.

My temps are decent, I was just wondering how much if any not being able to lower the CPU vcore would matter. I was also trying to figure out which temperature app. was most accurate. I haven't changed Real Temps Tjmax which is at 95. My best estimate is that a calibrated Real Temp is better for my idle temps and a calibrated Speedfan is better at load temps. Core Temp (with factory settings) is kinda in the middle with 2 warmer cores. I have lapped my CPU and my Xiggy S1283 has dual Antec Tri-Cools set on med. (1600 rpms). My case is also full of Tri-cools and one Zalman ZM-F3 in the blowhole position where my push-pull Xiggy aims. Any thoughts of which if any are accurate?

Q6600 @ 3.0GHz loaded with Prime95 short FFT's all fans on med. Ambient 22-23C.
Core Temp 55,55,47,49
Speedfan 51,51,50,50 *Tcase=45 - 46
Real Temp 50,50,46,44

Q6600 @ 3.0GHz idle all fans on med. and ambient 22-23C.
Core Temp 35,34,27,33
Speedfan 32,33,30,34 Tcase=26
Real Temp 29,29,29,29

Zorg, Your right. It's not something I need to loose sleep over. I'm more curious about it than anything. I've tried many things to lower my temps according to Core Temp (extra fans, lapping, going from a Xiggy SD964 to a S1283) and I've not seen but a 1 or 2 degree difference. Calibrating my other 2 apps lowered my temps more than anything LOL. I just want to know if it was worth it and/or semi-accurate.

Enable C1E in the BIOS and it will drop your idle voltage and speed for you ;) I have the same problem with my BIOS, no downwards-adjustable vcore.

Thanks randomizer.

AFAIK, my BIOS doesn't have C1E :( . I do have EIST but it only lowers the multi right?

From my experience they appear to do the same thing. I find they don't like each other running together, I get stuck at a 6x multi permanently. Probably just a BIOS bug though.

I did try EIST when trying to calibrate, but I didn't see a change after idling for about 5 mins. Maybe my HIPS and/or AV kept it from working? I'll have to try it again after I move and settle in.
