I have been thinking about taking advantage of these prices, but then I have to shell out more money for the 24" monitor which is what I've been wanting to do.

I would buy this card in a minute if that price were correct. When I go to the link provided, I find the eVGA 8800 GTX as described, but for $359.95, not $299.95. The starting price point is $469.95, not $409.95. If I am wrong, please tell me and I will order the card from Newegg immediately.

I think you need to enter the promo code during purchase to get the price. Notice how the OP included the code in his post.

Yes, I just confirmed what Trialsking just noted. You must add the promocode when the item is in your cart to notice the extra 60$ off. This is some deal!!
As far as the step up program works, do you have to pay on top of what you paid for it, or the retail price of the card?
For the step up, you need to go through eVga.com, not another retailer like Newegg.com, but yes, you just subtract what you paid fromt he price of the card your stepping up to. But again you need to step up to card price from eVga.

Oh okay, thanks Trialsking for the quick reply. So, if I ordered that exact card from Newegg. When / If I stepped up I would have to pay the difference of the new card @ eVga's price. Correct? Sorry, just wanted to clarify.
It is little difficult to summarize the new GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB card’s performance. In games or benchmarks where fillrate and shader performance are the limiting factors, these new cards are excellent performers and can outpace even a GeForce 8800 GTX. But in situations where memory bandwidth and frame buffer size are more important, like say at high resolutions with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering enabled, the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB can’t quite keep up with the more expensive GTX due to its narrower memory bus and smaller frame buffer. Generally speaking though, the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB’s performance is better than the original 640MB GTS and the relatively new 8800 GT and on-par with the GeForce 8800 GTX at lower resolutions. Crank up the resolutions, however, and the GTX (or Ultra) is still the king of the hill.

You guys were right, the promo code knocks it down to $349.95 with the MIR of $50.00 it is $299.95! Obviously Newegg is getting ready for the "next big thing", but I think I can enjoy this for at least the 90 days step-up period if not longer. My new Samsung 22" monitor will really appreciate it as well. I order as soon as I get home from work. Thanks everyone!!
WARNING!! If you are buying this card for the mail-in-rebate, it must be postmarked by 3/30/2008. In other words, you won't be eligible for this rebate unless you ordered it several days ago.
Just a word of warning. If you ordered it today because of the price after rebate, you're going to be disappointed.
That's one reason why mail in rebates are a pain. You have to account for shipping time, shipping errors, time for you to cut out the UPC, photocopy everything, and mail it in.

You are an idiot! If you buy today, you have 30 days to receive the item (usually 2 - 5 days shippign) and then about 25 days to get off your but and get it in the mail.
