Well I'm ready to order everything for my computer, and I'm sick of waiting on e8400's

Should I just buy an e8500 or a e3110? I've heard the 3110's are basically the exact same thing.

More about : tired waiting e8400

If E8500 is available go for it and do not hesitate
March 19, 2008 12:31:19 AM

You can find an E8500?
AFAIK Intel only released E8400 and E3110 on January 20th.
I don't know if the E3110 is exactly the same as the E8400.
As for E8200 and E8500 I believe they have only been shipped to OEM customers.

Do you have link for a retailer who has E8500 cpu's in stock and shipping?

i would get the 6750, sure it runs a little slower but its a great cpu -what i am using

yes, if you wait i would skip the 8400 and go to the 8500
March 19, 2008 1:15:30 AM

the 8500 is a fairly big jump whereas the e3110 can generally be had for cheaper than the 8400 (at least from the stores ive seen) and the only differnce is it carries the Xeon name which will mean the CPU is higher binned

Id go for the e3110 if you can get it

Go with your budget, and have a heatsink to support it. none are a bad option.
March 19, 2008 1:33:44 AM

server chips are for servers! lol!

is this a sever app? its 775 so its same thing with a different name?
March 19, 2008 1:54:04 AM

Its like the athlon MP, its just a desktop chip that happens to be unlocked and ready to go in MP situations, or run on a desktop board as a workstation.

You mean you can't find an E8400 or your tired of waiting for prices to come down?

Got mine at Fry's for $245 out the door.
March 19, 2008 3:39:24 AM

Has anyone recieved their $200-210 Buy.com e8400's? I got sick of waiting for mine and hate paying a premium because of low supply/high demand.

edit: I like this one. availability = yes. But click to see real time availability and they are backordeed a few thousand. :)

I agree E8500 see if its sensor isnt all out of wack like the 8400 is.
March 19, 2008 5:05:52 AM

I've never actually seen the E8500 available in stock anywhere (or E8200, for that matter). BTW, I just received an e-mail from ZipZoomFly.com that the E8400 is in stock and shipping
...but at $279. I don't think we'll see $189 E8400's anytime soon. I'm happy that I got my E3110 a few weeks ago for $218 after an E8400 disappeared out of my shopping cart at TigerDirect.
March 19, 2008 5:22:31 AM

^^ Womp Womp Womp Womp $279 good Lawd.
March 19, 2008 5:56:15 AM

I've never read real evidence to prove the temperature sensing hardware integrated in the new Intel 45nm processors is defective.

I bought my E8400 on January 20th. It's over clocked to 1600MT/s FSB (3.6GHz) with the CPU voltage set to automatic using a standard Intel copper core heat sink fan unit. The E8400 is on a X38 board with DDR3 memory clocked at 800MHz (PC3 12800).

Anyway my idle temperature averages 29C and full load temperature under stress testing gets up to 62C.

What I have learned. Persons experiencing unusual temperatures for their E8400 processors are not updating their motherboard BIOS to properly identify the E8400 processor.

Research first before hopping aboard the FUD bandwagon.

i bought my E3110 couple days ago from excaliberpc.com for $219 retail. its up to $229 now but GL finding it for cheaper and in stock elsewhere. on the E8500 note i dont think paying $50-100 more for 160 mhz increase is really worth it.

heres the link to excaliber and it is still in stock

Forgive him. He's from Arizona. (probably didn't even know a queen could be married to a prince. Hmm on second thought, that even sounds funny to me. Incest the royal game)
March 20, 2008 3:37:52 PM

Depends on what kind of queen....

What Im wondering is, if the queens a queen, howd we get the prince?
March 20, 2008 5:26:53 PM

ouch.. I got mine for $250 after tax from a local PC shop in my town
March 20, 2008 6:35:20 PM

I just bought a e3110 for $207 at buy.com! They actually have them in stock.

I received 5 dollars off for signing up as a promo code. Budget free shipping for 0 dollars so the total was really 207.

Be carefull guys xeon E3110 needs ECC memory
Check the availabilty sand price of these memoriesbefore buying one
As for new motherboards I think they support ECC and NONECC memories but worth checking
March 20, 2008 8:33:11 PM

Where did you get that the E3110 requires ECC memory?

Clint
March 20, 2008 8:42:55 PM

The Xeon E3110 does not require ECC memory. I'm running one right now with plain old unbuffered non-ecc DDR2-800. It is identical to the E8400 except it says E3110 on it instead of E8400.
March 20, 2008 10:08:10 PM

hmm building a bit of E3110 inventory Intel? Shame shame, trying to dump a server cpu on these poor folks! lol

Moreover, PCWizard 2008 (v1.84) even detects the CPU as an E8400... There is a full active thread on the matter here.

Ok, what the heck. I called them and they said the CPU was in stock and $220. My dad went to pick it up (he is not a computer person) and they sold it to him for $275! From what this shows, I should have gotten a MoBo along with it! Im giving them a call this morning.

I canceled my buy.com e8400 order 2 days ago. I'm guessing in a couple of months, the market will be full of chips and I'll pick a more reliable retailer then. I've always had problems with Buy.com's shipping.
March 21, 2008 2:44:55 PM

Yeah, same here, but I knew others got in on it before me so wondered if any had shipped or not. I was tempted to do the e3110, but really don't need it so like you I'll be waiting for supply to build and prices to settle.
