Cannot find E8400 anywhere, and don't know of a good replacement. That's Question #1! If they start supplying again, this'll be my first choice for a rig: Some from Newegg, some from Techonweb (new to me, anyone dealt with them?), for price reasons:

Antec P180 = $132.; E8400 = $236; Diamond data fax = $19 (all Techonweb).

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P = $155; HIS H387QS512NP (HD 3870) = $200; PC P & C Silencer 610 = $120; 2 Sammy Spinpoint T 320gb (no raid) = $150; OCZ Reaper HPC Edition, cas 4, 2 X 2gb = $121; Floppy = $7.00; Samsung 203B DVD = $30; Windows XP Pro = $140.00 (have SP1 CD, heard cannot update it); Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro = $27.00; Antec case fan (for 4th case fan) = $13; 4 Right angle SATA cables; 12" Y cable for power = $4; Arctic Cooling MX-2 = $7; Koutech 3.5" multi card reader plus 5.25" to 3.5" adapter = $31. Total us $1423 plus techonweb's shipping.

Do I really need a new copy of XP? ny other thoughts? This will be used for regular apps, photo editing and hopefully this old geezer will get into gaming! I don't plan on much overclocking at all. Do I need a vid card cooler, & which one? Don't know where to start there! Thanks for all negs and pos's.

No, you don't. You can use an existing copy of XP. If you're careful, you can use the XP on a harddisk.

The HD3870 comes with a 2-slot cooler which is fine for even overclocking.

The list looks great.
