I have a 7600GS now with 256MB. Not a great card, I know, but I do not do much gaming. Mostly World of Warcraft and a couple of first person shooter type games (DOOM III).
I am thinking about upgrading to prepare for Windows Vista. Currently have XP Pro SE2. I am looking at an ATI 3870 based card. I know that it does not compare to the 8800GT offerings, but I am sure that it would fine for my purposes and give me the added benefit of DirectX 10.x compatibility.
My only concern with the 3870 is that it is not supported by Kubuntu, which I have a dual boot. Would I be wise to buy an 8600GT instead?
