Most of the above is new (the HDD is from a friend selling the drives cheap) I am also carrying over my Monitor (Samsung 931B) and my Keyboard and Mouse (Microsoft Silver/Black 104 Normal Keys 24 Function Keys USB RF Wireless Ergonomics Laser Desktop 6000 Mouse Included wireless combo)

I have just ordered the rest and will begin the build early next week.

Would have recommended 2x2GB of RAM but i guess you've already ordered the parts. Looks like a solid build, let us know how it goes

Looks pretty nice, but I've got a few recommendations for next time:

Instead of 4x1GB of RAM, go with 2x2GB so you can easily pop in another 4GB later on.

As for the HDD's, you got a bargain, but if you're going to need more storage then I recommend you go with the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11's. Very fast, high-capacity drives.

Finally, the monitor. That's a 19" Monitor, but I noticed you got an SLI mobo. Are you planning on upgrading the monitor to take advantage of SLI? If not, you could have saved $50-100 on the motherboard by going with a nice P35 board.

You got a great rig though! Have fun putting it together.

Well i would have gone for the 2x2 RAm but the 4x1 only cost 70.00 after rebate and I think It will be along time before I need more than 4GB of RAM.

I think I may get some 7200.11 later and possibly put them in something like this D-Link DNS-323.

I may do the SLI, I have done it in my last two builds with 6600GT's and then with some 7600GTS's. If i get a new monitor I will think of that for my birthday or Christmas (one or the other I will be getting a Blu Ray player) Anyway on the monitor I though about the Samsung 22” SyncMaster Monitor 2232BW.

My brother in law had a better deal than I thought. The HDD were not the Seagate Barracuda 300GB 7200.8 ST3300631AS but rather Seagate Barracuda 300GB 7200.10 ST3300622AS-RK The price was $100.00 for the pair.

first problem

My case did not come with enough standoffs for proper motherbard instalation. Is it ok to just have it mounted on 9 out of 10 points?

nvm last post went down to frys and got a case of assorted computer case screws. Hopefully I will be done my build tonight and have pics posted by the weekend.

Just for future reference, if the missing standoff can be placed in a no-stress area then it should be fine missing one. I recently discovered I was missing one on my current computer, but because I so rarely have to mess about with things on the motherboard I just decided to leave it alone rather than rip the mobo back out.

Well I am up and running. It started up on the first try. Then I went through some BSOD while installing windows. It did not like all of that memory upfront, then it didn't like the Nvidia driver, but I think I am good to go now. pics to follow. looks ugly now need to figure out some better cable management.

use some of those twist-ties you probably will have gotten wih some of the stuff, ie, cables... I did... add to that a hectic Antec fan and my CM Elite 330 is a wind tunnel

I ran 3dmark06 and scored around 10600 is that good. Also for Vista users my vista experience rating in 5.3 (this is the rank for my processor, everything else is hitting 5.9 which i hear is the highest.) I did not think that my CPU was going to be my weak link. Anyway do my numbers look about right? I am not overclocking anything, may plan to later though.

Well I noticed the multiplier was off in my bios I have changed it to 9x. that bumped me up to a 12154 3dmark06 and a vista exp of 5.7 (CPU still the low point).
