I use the GA-EX38-DS4, and satisfied with it so far. PCIE2.0 is fully backward compatible to PCIE. X38 can reliably oc its fsb to 2000+mhz, how much beyond that point is questionable. Your e8400 cpu would be the bottleneck, not the x38 board. e8400 oc would hit vcore wall before heat wall, so cooling isn't the biggest issue.

I haven't used e8400, but according to others, it would be around 4ghz.

That's up to you, and your budget. Keep in mind Nahalem is arriving at end of the year, barring any delays, and it uses a new socket.

how much can p5k-e oc to if you know because if the vcore is stopping me theres no point getting a 2000mhz board if theres a new socket soon

P35 runs at 1333mhz fsb and oc reliably to 1600mhz (4x400). Use 400 x your cpu multiplier = cpu clock.

if the e8400 can only oc to near 4ghz if i could i could theareticly get it to 4.6 if there where no vcore problems so i guess a $300 mobo is a waste with a new socket around the corner as everyone will swich

I'm not sure how high clock e8400 can hit. You should search around for better opinions.

even if it can go over 4.6 there is no point right and when a mobo can oc 1600 or 2000mhz you add that to the cpus stock speed right so like 4600 limit on that mobo

do high volteges realy limit a cpus life?

Yes, although mostly, the cpu will be obsolete before it burns out. Don't put vcore too high though, or you risk instant burnout that can happen at any given moment. Different chips have different tolerance. You'll have to look it up.

No, you should have more than 2gb. It's likely your PC is being lagged down by page file usage.

I wouldn't say everyone. All switches are gradual. It won't be obsolete overnight.  :p
