Hello,

I have an HP dv5000 that needs Windows reinstalled. The hard drive seems to work fine in the current installation. I ran scandisk to fix a few errors but the same message appears when trying to install Windows. It states that no hard disks can be detected, and to check cables. It also recommends scanning for errors, which was done. This is the factory hard drive so everything is connected properly. Perhaps the hard drive going bad?

Thanks for any help. :)

is the hard drive a sata drive?

when you were running the installation disc do you remember a point when it asked whether you required a extra floppy disk for the hd drivers?

have a look through your collection of cd's that came with the computer for a systems driver cd and hopefully you can find a sata driver on there.

You may also need to change the drive type from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS.

If CHKDSK fixed a few errors you might also wanna run the Hard Drive test that usually lies in HP's BIOS, might save yourself more trouble in the long-run.
