Is that possible? Asus' website seems to indicate that the SE only supports Wolfdales, not the 45nm Yorkfields. Does anyone know/seen/heard otherwise...that the Striker Extreme may indeed support the 45nm Q9450?

I just NewEgg'd a Rampage Formula to support a Q9450...and if that wasn't necessary because the Q9450 would work on my Striker Extreme it'd be a big $300 dolt! I think I was safe to buy the RF but I just thought I'd check.

Thanks, as always.

Yes, I use an Intel Quad. Sometimes its a little overclocked, sometimes a bit underclocked. Yet, its always nice and the virtualiztion is sick. And?

There was an issue with the 680i chipset that caused it not to be compadible with the Yorkfields. Late last year it was on the forums alot. I was personally told by Nvidia that it would work but then it came out that due to how all of the motherboards were designed around the 680i chipset no bios update could make the Yorkfields work. My understanding was that if Nvidia knew of the design criteria sooner they could have helped their OEMs out. That is why if you want a Yorkfield on an Nvidia chipset you have to buy a 780i. The rumor is Intel punished Nvidia because Nvidia wrote drivers to SLI would not work on Intel chipsets. In the end the consumer ends up paying for the industry wars. People have hacked the Nvidia drivers and made SLI work on the Intel boards but not may people can do that.

This is why you don't listen to people on forums. They have no idea what they're talking about most of the time.

I have a Striker Extreme, running a Q9450 and 4GB Crucial Ballistix. In fact, I'm typing this on it. People should zip it when they don't have any experience.

Passerby, wish I had know that, I got a Rampage Formula and gave my Striker Extreme to my stepfather. Oh well, its only money.

I was asking about this earlier with regards to a non-extreme striker. Can I ask what BIOS you are using, and what if any settings you had to make to get the CPU working?

Thanks........

Which BIOS are you using to get it to work?

Perhaps passerby has realized he/she was mistaken and its either not a Striker Extreme or its not a Q9X50 running on it. FUD?
