Hi everyone,

I brough a Quad 6600 v G0 , ASUS p5K and vga 8800 GT 600 Mhz, 2 x 2 Gb Corsair DDR2, PS Chieftec 750W

The service asambled with cooler from box , I got home I put my HDD`s and DVD and turn it on, after installed WIN XP SP2 x86 I made some testes on how is working the new CPU.

Honestly I got amazed about CPU usages .. BUT, opening SpeedFan 4.34 beta 40 (with -15c fix) I saw my CPU is staying in ~40 degrees

I start to look on internet about CPU temperatures and I saw normal is like 25 idle and 45 full load.

So I changed the heatsink with a Spire Fourier III (blowing air from the CPU to HS and to case cover) , using a Arctic ceramic paste.

ok, after a hard montage (necesary bracers under MB) I finished and boot it up. The diference was like 1-2 degrees (idle 39-40c . even 41 after some hours - tcase)

On Orthos test (opening 2 x Orthos , affinity set on 2 + 2 cores) .. got CPU on 100 % full load and 57c idle tcase, 67c TJunc)

OK, something was not good, so I start to make some airflow in case:

120 cm front ~ 1500 RPM (getting air into the computer)
120 cm up case ~2000 RPM (getting out hot air)
80 cm back ~3000 RPM (in side of heatsink ~ getting air inside)

Now the CPU is like Tcase 35c idle and TJ  43-44.

If I start a game (WoW, Hellgate) CPU is rising up to 43-44, for Crysis CPU is up to 50c tcase and the top fan is getting out a lot of hot air like a air conditioner on hot mode.

.. and dont wanna talk about noise .. is like 2 enginee of airplanes

I`ve read the CPU guide, according to that should not worry, but I am because of games and applications is rising like 10c in 3-4 sec instant

Now my questions are:

This is normal or I`m getting crazy making this CPU to run "normal" ?

When people are talking about this 25-30c CPU idle and 45 load for wich temps are reffering to? tcase or Tjunc?
 
What can I do to reduce this annoying noice but to not over heat the CPU?

PS: I dont want to overclock untill I fix this. So is running at 2.4 GHz standard / box CPU.
     Same temps specified are verified with Core Temp, Speedfan 4.34 beta 40, TAT and AS Suite/ PC Probe for Tcase

well idle is 46-48c and in WoW is like 55 and crysis 64c

Your runnin at pretty much normal, if not a little cooler, be happy, most people get about 60c with overclock.

Your temps look normal to me. If you plan to OC get a good cooler.

Your temps are not that out of the ordinary.  You might have a overly concave IHS.  This would cause poor contact, and cause extreme inefficient cooling.
 
I lapped my buddies Q6600 for him.  His was really concave, and his Thermalright 120 ultra extreme was also very rigidy.  It shaved of about 10 degrees from his temps.....but it also voided his warranty.

Changed the CPU cooler with an Arctic Freezer Pro 7, now is like 27 idle Tcase and 35- 36 Tjunct (morning boot) and 33-34 tcase after few hours (with fan controller minim) , 28-30 tcase (with fan`s at maxim .. but a lot of noise)

Spire dissapointed me a lot with the Fourier III

Question:
The ~35c degrees idle is normal for Q6600 TCase or must be Tjunction ? (with air cooling)

Well, your temps are better than mine as they stand, but here's a recent thread where a lot of people gave me advice. The big one was lowering core voltage in BIOS. I lowered mine to 1.25v, and might go lower. (Before starting to OC, at which point I'll bump it up again.)

1 thing I didnt mention, about case.

Is a Iron case, cheap normal ~10 euro , iron ~1mm, no Al or Cu or anything to remove the heat and I made some holes DIY
