Hey all,

I just wanted to know if anyone had a good article on the Q6600 quad-core processor. If there's a good one on this site, please link it up on here.

Thanks.

I found an article, dated back in 2007, and it said that most consumers should go with the E6600, so I'm not sure if I should stick with a Dual, or a Quad-core processor? I do a lot of photo and video editing, and for the time being, I'll stick with XP, but I'll eventually move towards Vista.

Thanks.

It depends on your budget and your needs. I am with gigabytes p35 ds3L. It is a basic board with awesome overclocking capabilities. If you are not looking for raid, sli and esata, i would recommend you for this. This board supports 45nm processors. it is also easy to oc because it, by default, supports fsb 1333 mghz.

my q 6600 is now at 2.8 on stock cooling. The highest temp it goes is 55 C after hours of stress test.  it idles temp is 22. I jumped from pd 830. So , i see a lot of improvements in terms of performance and temperature. Since it runs cooler , it is a lot eaiser to oc.

Good luck.

Single or dual video card?  Planning to overclock?

Full atx, mATX, doesnt much matter.  I'm a fan of MSI and Asus.  If you land a board with the Intel P35 Chipset like any of the Asus P5K series you should do well, and it has room to upgrade later.  If planning Vista doing video editing, a Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 set will be cheap and good performing to bring it all together.

for starters, i'd go with one vid. card - and yes overclocking is always an option down the road.

I had an Asus, and I was happy with it overall.

What sort of board can you get for around $200? That has PCIe, SLI capabilities, and a lot of room for upgrades?

Thanks.

I hate titty tats.

and i agree you can't go wrong with P35 chipsets - i'm using MSI P35 Neo2-FR (admittedly with e2160, but i built a system with q6600 and the same and its great)

Laffy if you post your budget and what you want to do with your system (Gaming?), you'll get more help.

I did post my budget in a thread within the 'Homebuilt Systems', and they gave me some recommendations of what I should get - but the main things that I will be doing are photo and video editing (Premiere/Photoshop), and gaming for the most part. I plan on spending about $1000 CND.

I'm set on the processor - Intel Q6600 - but now I need some direction as to which motherboard, video card, and RAM I should get - because I don't want to make a mistake.

Thanks.
