I'm getting around 30-40 fps on wetwork and most other maps no matter what settings I use. Its always pretty choppy and I'm getting annoyed. Other games run just fine. I get 130+ fps in source with 1280x1024 and highest everything.

E6750, 2gb crucial ballistix, 8600gts oc at 49C, 500w power supply, centurion 5 case

I've tried 4 different drivers and nothing.

I'm looking for others with an 8600gts to see if this is usual or not...

The 8600 series really isn't that good for gaming, its better off using for playback of HD movies. Return your card if you can and get a better gaming card like the 8800 series. :) Also when you say, "500 watt PSU", what brand is it?

I had an 8600GTS and it ran everything great except crysis so its not like its useless. I only played COD4 single player but if I remember correctly I was at 1680x1050 or 1440x900 with everything up and it was smooth with only a few hickups. No need to take back your card if you dont want to put out the money for a better one.

Sounds about right. The 8600GTS isn't a bad card but it's not great either. For older games running the source engine it will smack on. If its possible to return it for a 9600GT that would be a much better investment if your still looking for a solid midrange card.

my friend just ran my 8600gts in a rig very similar to mine...the only difference is his motherboard...he ran it in xp and vista and got about 60 fps instead of my 30 and he had everything turned really high up...

yesterday we used his power supply to power my rig and i got the same 30 fps i always get...ive tried his 8800gt in my computer and it doesnt perform nearly as well as in his computer...

ive tried 4 different video drivers

what could be causing this problem?!?

Just curious you said wetwork? do you mean multiplayer online or on a lan with others? I've played games when I was on DSL using wireless a few years ago and everything was fine single player and online play was choppy at times. When they upped our DSL from 512up/128down to 1.5MM up/768 down I saw a huge difference. Also is there, i cant remember, a selector for what type of internet connection you have?

What type of internet connection do you have?

vsync is off

wetwork is a multiplayer map as well

it can't be the internet b/c it lags on lan and my friend actually lives with me and uses the same internet and doesn't experience the fps or internet lag (i dont lag on the internet either its fps lag im getting)

COD4 is more demanding than HL2.

You should be hovering around 40fps or so with everything cranked. You might want to overclock a bit.

I played COD4 the single player campaign,. About 45-50fps average by just eyeing it @ 1440x900 no AA everything maxed with Vista x86. Few hickups in certain situations but completely smooth.

Dude, it's an 8600gts...what were you expecting?

It's not your motherboard, RAM or PSU, it's the 8600gts. It can probably barely max Call of Duty 2 with AA at 1280x1024. I hope you bought it online for less than $100 and not BestBuy at $150+.

I'd be worried TBH, Im using a modified 8400GS 256MB TC card @ 1280 x 720 resolution, with default graphics quality and hitting between 30 and 70 FPS depending on location.

Drivers? PSU? CPU?

The card itself should manage the game fine at that resolution but dont turn on the AA...

the drivers are fine...the cpu runs super pi at 39 seconds and is at 20C...the PSU isn't the problem b/c i already tried my friends and performance didnt change

I have your same card, i'm running it in a pentium d 3.00Ghz, 3gb ram, and i play with settings high an average of 65-80 FPS (online) single playing less, like 40-59 FPS in 1690x1050 res. i don't know why run better online anyways I only got the game for playing it only so best for me :bounce: :D
