More about merge partitions
  1. Do the partitions have on them any data that you wish to save?
  2. The partition has no data. I received a solution by following the directions in XP disk management. It was a sequence using command prompt. It is mentioned in the help section on merging.

Hi, in the past there's no way to merge two partitions into one derectly unless backup the data on one of the partition, and then delete it, add the unallocated space into another partition by using windows disk management (if you are running Windows 7/VISTA or Windows Server 2008) if you were running Windows XP, 2003, you could only use the disk part command to add the unallocated space into another partition and then readd the data into it.

But now you need not do that, with the new upgrading of the latest partition magic for windows 7, you could merge two partitions into one directly and without lossing data.
