this is my first post on this forum, the reason being is that im normally able to fix any problems myself. until now that is.
It all started when I upgraded my AMD sempron +3000 cpu to a Athlon 64 +3400 1m l2cache
Why I hear you say, well its the last throw of the dice for my age old Abit KV8-pro socket 754 mobo before i take the plunge and buy a whole new system from scratch. anyway....
I update my bios to ver 26 which is the latest one for my board as I was putting a new cpu in, cleared cmos and flashed bios all went well using the uguru flash menu (i thought anyway) no erros so i powered down and put the new cpu in, booted up and got the checksum error which is what i wanted as it was a new chip and didnt want to run with non default, so i went into the bios to change my setting, no cpu setting chaged left them at default, just enabled agp fastwrights, agp w/s write agp 3.0 calibration, then disabled abit uguru logo on startup as i like to see whats going on during boot, pressed f10 to save & exit bios and, nothing, a blank screen with no signal flashed up at me, so in order to get back to the bios I had to clear cmos take battery out of mobo and start again.. this happened every time i go into the bios and make changes as soon as i hit f10 or goto save and exit the same thing happens, even if I leave everything at default values and hit f10, no post or bios just a no signal on the monitor... the only way it will boot is with default values and nothing else, I cannot create a new cmos by saving the bios, something is not right but I just cant figure it out, i have even gone back the previous bios ver 25 and it is still happening, I am not getting the max performace out of the board with the default values and cannot have usb emulation either as default value is off. can anyone offer suggestions other than the ones i have tried my spec is as follows:
AMD Athlon 64 +3400 @ 2.21ghz l2 cache 1mb socket 754 with Zalman copper cooler FSB 200mhz x 2 multiplyer 11.0x
DDR 400 2x 512 Stock PSU 400watt
Geforce 7300GT AGP x8 rev 3.0 @ 1280 x 720p HD
Seagate barracude 120g IDE 133
Abit KV8-pro mobo with VIA KT800 chipset.

hello again.. still getting the problems I can boot ok but cannot make any changes to the bios at all as soon as I go into it the only way to boot is to press esc and go back to boot using default values.... can anyone offer any advise anything at all !
Hi all never mind about the above, I have managed to fix it , it seems that it was a faulty cpu, don't know how but I have gone back to my sempron +3000 and it works fine I can save to the ccmos and make chages to the bios, I have never heard of a chip doing that before, oh well lesson learned for today
