Constant Freezing

My computer freezes constantly, and im pretty sure its not a heat issue first off. I have two heat probes in my computer case, both reading the South Bridge and North Bridge. The average temps are 24C and 30C respectivley. My cpu is liquid cooled and runs at about 24C. My harddrive runs at about 24C. So as i said, i dont think its a heat issue.

Iv run several diag software such as: Windows Error-Checking, Hulti (samsungs HDD diag-soft), Memtest86, and more.

My cpu specs are as follows:
- CPU: Q6600 (2.4ghz)

- Ram: (2x2GB) OCZ reaper DDR2 800

- MoBo: Msi P7N Platinum

- HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152100
- OS: Windows XP (32/bit) SP3 (fully updated)

The reason i'v posted this in the HardDrive thread is because i think i'v found my problem but i dont know how to correct it. When i go into "Device Manager" and check under the "Disk Drives" i see my Samsung HDD but its labled as "SAMSUNG HD753LJ SCSI Disk Device". My friends computer has the same HDD in it however his reports "SAMSUNG HD753LJ " and in it's properties, it DOES NOT have a "SCSI Properties" tab like mine does. In bios, my HDD is reported as "SAMSUNG HD753LJ " without the "SCSI Disk Device" part after. I even tried to remove and disable the RAID/SCSI controllers within "Device Manager" but to no avail.

Sorry for the long post, but i'v searched for quite awhile for several weeks now and just recently found the hdd discrepency. Thank you for all your input.

have you / or your friend modified your bio's at all?

have you reset it to optimised defaults?

just wondering whether you've managed to flick on an option which you dont need,
have you turned on any raid options in the bios at all?

Maybe you have AHCI turned on on your controller, while your friend simply have this option set to native IDE (or whatever may look like this, I don't know every BIOS options...)

freezing computer are often caused by faultly memory.. run memtest on each stick than as a pair.

@ pat: i saw no such AHCI option within Bios.I really dont think it is a memory issue as iv run several memtest86 tests. I have tried memtest on each stick aswell, yeilding no results.

@ Johnnyq1233: My power supply is a Xion 800w

My Graphics card is a Nvidia 9800gtx

( i think it would be great to mention, i am very sure i have adequite power)

@ montyuk: i'm sure my friend has not modifed his bios as he wouldnt know how lol, and i have modified it previously however it is running on stock, standard settings at the moment.

I think it would be great to note, my friends and my setup are far diffrent, he runs ATI and AMD while I, Intil and Nvidia.

No, i installed the drivers upon booting into windows.
*EDIT*
Ok, so i found this post:
http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=ata_drives&thread.id=6112
on some random forum with close to the same symptoms as my machine however theirs is constantly being accessed while mine is freezing (possabley due to the hdd, not sure at this point). The reply was blaming the drivers of my motherboard as opposed to the harddrive being at fault. This would explain why my harddrive name appears diffrent from my friend, who is on a completely different setup. It would also mean that my harddrive could quite possibly not be at fault for my lock-up's, at least in regards towards the "SCSI Disk Device" appended to the name of my hdd.

Does this sound accurate to anyone, Or is this new info I'v presented irrelevant?

Sorry for the double post, but i felt it was nessisary as the previous post was quite lengthy.

Ok so im stuck, i cant install my Visual studio 2008 proffesional because it freezes during install, well to be honest it dosnt freeze, its more like as if it were really bogged down however the cpu isnt even close to 100% usage so i dont know, maybe a conflict of some sort?

I dont know if when my PC does it's random freezing, if it acts like its bogged down or just completely freezes, ill have to check it next time it acts up.

Im not sure if this will help at all but when i use the cmd "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" in the cmd prompt and tick "show hidden devices" in "Device Manager" i can see all previously installed hardware, the weird thing is, i see what should be my HDD. One of the greyed out items (meaning disconnected) is "SAMSUNG HD753LJ" while the darkend item (meaning connected) is
"SAMSUNG HD753LJ SCSI Disk Device".

This means, at somepoint intime i had the proper drive name configured but somehow it switched to being SCSI, possibley due to driver installs?

My next move is to remove all drivers and reinstall new ones, using nothing from the included driver cd's.
If that dosnt work, i suppose im reinstalling windows, yet again...
- Good thing i have a 16GB flash drive :)
