I have a quad processor q6600 2.4ghz inside and 1hdd and a 2600xt ATI HD Radeon card on a P5k mobo. I was getting temperatures of 60 degrees celcius when idle and nearly 70 degrees when playing games, extracting files etc. Been like this since I bought this computer about 8 months ago.

I read some forums just now and noticed this was unusually high and should be lower considering its not overclocked.
So I went into my BIOS and noticed there was a option for q-control cpu fan speed which was enabled. I set it to disabled this and am now getting much lower temps about 40-50 when the computer is being used as shown in the pic below. Will disabling this in the BIOS affect anything in any way?

I got it custom built by someone, never opened it since getting it odd why he would have had this q-control option enabled as it only made my cpu fan spin at about 1000rpm even when on full load. Now its spinning at 2200rpm as you can see from the screenshot.

Btw i have no idea why the Aux says 124 degrees celcius it always says this and never changes lol.

Aux temperature you can ignore it, the rest I think are ok for 40-50 on load, should be like 30-35 idle

 

You can also reduce the CPU Voltage, but see the right posts for this.

 

What is your case and airflow inside?

 

I had same problem, but I just changed the heatsink to better one and got better results.

 

The RPM is now on optimal and is like 32-33 with the other coolers at minimum, if I disable CPU Q-Fan (to put it on max speed like 2500 RPM) and coolers at maxim .. I can get like 26-27 idle and 36 on games

 

I have same mobo, I made also upgrade to last version 1005 and from original BIOS to this one I reduced like 5c temps on Tcase and Tjunct.

Is there any side effects to disabling the cpu fan control? I cant think of any as its running cooler now but spinning the fan faster.

The temp is a lot better than before, but i would say it " high" at stock speed. I oc mine to 2.8 , and my idle temps are 22 to 24 on stock cooling. It never goes over 55 under hours of stress test. In short, the temp you have is ok, but , to my standard, it is not acceptable for a non oc machine.

If a temperature shows a flame icon, this indicates alarm limits which require adjustment. Use the Configure button to set CPU and Core temp alarms to Warm Scale. If a temperature shows Aux 127, this is simply an unassigned input which can be disabled using the Configure button. See Section 11.

Strange. Just installed Speedfan and it shows 28 degrees for each cpu rather than 45 like everest or corecpu does.

Not strange at all. Don't expect SpeedFan 4.33 to be accurate until it's been updated to Beta 4.34, which fixes the +15c issue. SpeedFan will then indicate the same as Everest and Hardware Monitor. Follow the Temp Guide to calibrate your temps for the best accuracy.
