Sorry if this is the incorrect forum to post this on. Well, here's my story
I noticed that on the DFI website, there was a new driver available for my chipset/BIOs. I proceeded to attempt to flash the new BIOs using Winflash 1.92 but something went awry. When iit was updating, the program suddenly wasn't responding and suddenly I got a BSOD.
I just realized that I incorrectly flashed my BIOS. Is there anything I can do?

You can try clearing the CMOS, but most likely you have bricked the mobo. Depending on how old the mobo is you may be able to get a new BIOS chip and install it. I don't know if it would be worth it though. Most, if not all, newer mobos have chips that are soldered to the mobo.

Yeah I just realized that. When flashing, the CMOs was cleared but the mobo seems to be working.Everything attached is operating. Something to note might be that my mobo's display says it is stuck on code C1...not sure what that means... Anyways I don't have much skill in soldering so I have no idea what to do. Maybe one of my relatives can help.

Yeah as Zorg said clear the CMOS,its really very bad when the BIOS program stops responding so clear the CMOS and tell us the results.

I cleared the CMOs and the computer restarts, goes to mobo code C0 then C1 and stays stuck at C1.

Well you never gave us any specs so we can't give you any specifics, or even try to find the answer.

There are no post codes in the manual, surprise surprise. It appears, as near as I can tell, that it is failing the memory diagnostic.

Quote :

C1 Auto detect on-board DRAM & cache or
C1 Memory presence test; OEM specific, test the size of on-board memory

The problem is that the POST can't get far enough to boot to the floppy, were you to have/get one. If you could boot to the floppy then you could flash the BIOS again.

I think you are SOL. Give DFI a call on monday. I understand that they have good support and quick turn around, although I have no personal experience with them.

If SOL means **** out of luck then I guess you are right. Anyways...I have a floppy drive just no floppy diskettes. I'll find some later and try to flash it...Thanks for your help. If it doesn't work, I'll just call DFI as you said.

Yeah I realized that now... Thanks a ton. Do you think I'll be able to flash it using the floppy or have I screwed around too much?

If it will boot from a floppy you will be able to flash it.

Right, the problem is that it appears the POST is failing the memory diagnostic, as I said above, so I suspect your screwed. Plug in a floppy drive and see.

If you cannot reflash it as I suspect, then best bet is to contact the manufacturer. Forget about soldering. Either the bios chip is socketed and they will send you a new chip - pop out, pop in and good to go. Or you mail them the motherboard, they reflash it, and send it back.

I haven't dealt with DFI before, but have seen this happen with other brands and usually it just takes time to get it back to good. Windows sucks.

Flashing a BIOS from a floppy has always been the perfered method. Flashing in windows is the way things seem to be going. The windows method usually has two ways to do it. 1. flashing from the internet (bad choice IMHO) and 2. downloading the bios extracting to a directory and then flashing in windows. Asus has their own utility to do this. I concure call DFI to use their support.
