For some reason I can't download pdf files to my Palm (T3) from my Mac (OS
X) using the Adobe application. Maybe I can install them by hand on my SD
card? Where in the folder hierarchy should they be?

I *believe* that unless you install the Adobe reader .PRC on the SD
card, you're not going to see PDF PDBs on the card.
