Greetings,

I had a quick question, hopefully someone can help.

I'm thinking about upgrading my motherboard, and I was looking at the GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X38.

I noticed that the FSB on the GA-EX38 is 1600/1333 mhz.

The processor I currently have is the E6420 Conroe with a 1066 Mhz FSB.

My question is, will my processor work with this new motherboard, or would I have to upgrade my processor as well?

I am comfortable with the speed I have w/ overclock which is about 3.4 ghz if I can remember correctly, so I want to make sure the overclocking ability would remain too if I upgraded. Hoping to not have to upgrade the processor right now, but I'd like to upgrade my mobo for the near future.

You don't have to upgrade the cpu. It'll work fine. It's just that there won't be a difference running that cpu at 3.4ghz with a x38 or p35. You'd be paying more for nothing, until you get a new cpu. If you're not going to upgrade cpu, might as well hold off the motherboard until you can get both at the same time. Those things seem to get cheaper every passing second.

^agree if you arent going to upgrade your cpu soon there is little point in getting the x38.

What is your current mainboard, as it maybe able to run 1333mhz cpus if its a P35 which most of intels new cpu's will run fine on it also
