I finally came up with the funds for my final upgrade :D. I have already purchased a 8800GTS 512MB, that makes my old 7800GTX obsolete in comparison . I feel my current cpu is bottlenecking(C2D E4400) the full potential in my card.
I want to purchase an Intel Quad Q9300 but i don't know if my mobo supports 45nm cpus.
My Mobo is an Intel D945GCF w/ a Intel Lakeport-G i945G North Bridge.
I'm aware that the trusty Q6600 is also an option that would be 100% compatible w/ mobo since it supports up to a 1066FSB. I want to get the most for my buck by getting new 45nm cpus

I looked at Intel's site and none of the quads are supported including the Q6600. The fastest chip you can get that your board supports is the E6700.

Bad luck on that one if its true mate. My asus P5B deluxe mobo supports 45nm quads with a bios update. Always worth buying the best mobo around (at the time) as the base of your system.

ausch30 can u maybe find out if the P5RS600-FVM can support a e5200 ?
I ordered the chip ( im a newbie ) and never tought it might even be difference other than the LGA775 sockets wich i needed to make sure the new processor had...

so basically i didnt check if my mobo supported 45nm before i put up my order on the e5200...and now im curious if i should order a new mobo...or if my current one will do ( cause i will have to save up again if my current wouldnt )

please let me know this is very important

also. if i put it on my mobo...and it doesnt support it...will i demage the processor by even trying to get it on there ? as im pretty sure it would fit just not sure if it would be supported..
