I just built this system about a month ago. It is on my signature. I wanted to be able to build a system that would be upgradable with out having to spend more money on a MOBO. My temps are 17 idle and 29 full load. i will repost if for some reason my build doesnt appear on my signature. :bounce:

#1) It does not Show.

#2) Your Temps are Wrong unless you are using Refrigerant to cool your system. 17c is below Room Temperature.

Ok, i'm back and here is my build.
1) MOBO is ASUS P5KC
2) Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
3) Two PNY GeForce 7300 GT NVIDIA SLI
4) Two 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 Patriot Low Latency
5) CoolerMaster CM690 ATX Case
6) Six 120mm Fans
7) Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Fan
8) CoolerMaster 650W PSU Real Power Pro SLI
9)Western Digital 500GB HD
10) Phillips DVD RW (w/e was part of the budget)

Now I know many will say that i coulda done this and that but remember my goal was to build a bang for the buck system that can utilize DDR3 when it becomes affordable and also upgrade many components like a new processor and video cards when the time and money are right. I appreciate all your post, thank you very much. Oh Zenmaster, i am currently using Coretemp to check my temps and as I am typing this thread I am getting 20/19 temps. I do see 17 and 18 temps when i bring the computer out of standby state. Any info you can let me know as to why??? would help. Thanks!!

Ill be honest for what you spent you got pretty bad results. I cant for the life of me figure out why you would put 2 7300s let alone one in any machine but thats just my 2 cents.

The Asus P5KC is a P35 motherboard. It doesn't support Sli. I don't know who you are running those cards. Also the PSU is a tier 4. Not a good choice for a gaming computer.

Sorry dude, affroman112 is right, P35 is a Crossfire board. Only AMD/ATI cards brother.

Wait, it is true that P5KC is P35 board. From the beginning P35 never meant to have dual GPU, neither SLI nor Crossfire. The P5KC indeed has two PCIe 16 slot. But the second actually work on x4.

And despite that the PCIe slot can handle any PCIe card neither NVIDIA nor ATi, but how do you do SLI setup on non SLI mobo. OK, the P5KC can run crossfire, but SLI?

Actually the CM 650 Real Power Pro is a good choice for a gaming computer.
The Tiered PSU Listings @ http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiered+PSU+Listings?t=anon is not being maintained
and can lead to some misunderstandings. None of the "Real Power Pro" models are shown on the PSU listing and
they shouldn't be confused with CM Extreme Power (Tier 5) and CM Real Power (Tier 4).
Other examples of recent PSUs missing from the Tiered list; Antec Earthwatts, Corsair VX, Enermax Infiniti,
Silverstone DA, OP & ZM, Ultra X3.

Gosh, i love ATI

Agreed. Get a good PSU here. I recomend a Corsair450VX for your needs. Also you should have gotten some thing better than a 7300.

The Corsair 450VX is NOT on that list of recommended PSUs.

OP had a good PSU. @ colomboheritage; your PSU is fine.
Its even listed on the SLI Certified PSU List over
@ http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html

In fact except for the GPUs the rest of your build looks OK.
On other hand we'd all like to know how you managed to run SLI 7300GT on a CF motherboard.

#1) Being "SLI Certified" means nothing for quality.
#2) The Corsair 450w is a FANTASTIC PSU. Please read any of the reviews such as at JonnyGuru or others.

If you need a 650w PSU, there are likely better choices.
If you don't need a 650w PSU, then a smaller one like the 450w Corsair is an excellent choice.

#1) I will let others speak to the best way to read temps. I know some folks explain it better than I.
But 17c=62.6F. For your computer to idle at 62F, your room would need to be in the 50s. All the fans in the world will not drop the temp below room temperature. The best air cooling can do is keep it slightly above room temp.

#2) Don't worry about getting a Mobo that can support DDR3. There is not any point. DDR2 is more than fast enough to handle any current CPU. You won't really need it until the Nehalm ships, and that will require a new mobo. Get a less expensive CPU and put the money into other parts. The Gigabyte DS3L is a good value board if you don't need RAID and some other stuff. (Saves $40)

#3) E6420? How much are you paying for that? NewEgg has it at a crazy $200. If you can get if for about $100-$110 go for it. Otherwise, save some money and get an E2160.

#4) Get one REALLY good GPU, not two cheap ones. Also, you can't do SLI on Intel Chipsets. (Not counting SkullTrail)

Yes it does.

And recommeding the OP throw out a perfectly acceptable PSU to pick up another PSU
(even the 450VX) makes no sense at all.
