I'm missing favorite bar icons

My favorites bar is missing. I have it 'checked' on the view-toolbars menu. I have a star on the toolbar that says 'add to favorites bar' but no favorites bar! I looked in the folder on my c drive and it does have some things listed there to display. I really want this so I can put a "pin it" button there to share things in PINTEREST. (I DO have my favorites list in the top right corner...) thx for your help.
