Long time reader first time post.

I’m building a new system and it’s been awhile since the last. Like Pentium 3 days.

Any how I pretty much figured out what I want except the ram to use.

The List
Antec p182

500 GB 32 mb Seagate barracuda

evga 512 9600gt

corsiar 650w psu

evga 780i mobo

q6600 retail

tuniq tower 120

My goal is to start with 4g of 8500 ram w/ xp and eventually get another 4gig to run vista 64 on a second hd. The problem is the only ram rated for 8500 is either to big to get 8 gig in, (do to cooling pipes) or they are a off brand with horrible reviews. What ram should get with 8gig at 8500 goal?

I also plan on a second 9600gt one prices on them drop thus the 780i mobo.

Any other suggestions would be awesome. I’m not sure about the tuniq, I’ve hear good things about them.

I have a similar setup wth the same motherboard, cpu and cooler. I like the Tuniq, it's been great so far for the price. The ram you get really depends on how you plan on running your cpu. I've got my Q6600 overclocked to 3.0 ghz and have my memory underclocked from 1000mhz to 667 mhz to match my FSB at 333 for a 1:1 configuration which is optimal. In this case 8500 ram would be a waste, much like my 8000 is a waste. I got my ram at such a great price it really didn't pay not to get this over cheaper ram. I would highly recommend the ram in my sig as it has worked flawlessly with the 780i thus far and is a great deal.

I assume you are planning on overclocking based on you looking for 8500 memory. I also assume this will be your first time overclocking like I was for me with this new build. What are you planning to run your cpu at?

I suggest you read this guide :
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=222688

It should answer any questions you have. You can also read up in the overclocking forum here at TH. I'm sure if I am wrong someone will correct me, but I don't see the need for anything faster than the ram I suggested.

the g.skill is really good. I bought the 800 2*2 gig model and ended up kicking myself for not waiting a little longer and seeing the 1000 model, no regrets though, g.skill is awesome.

Im about the click the buy button. Im kinda torn on the video card. Is the 8800gt worth the extra 40 bucks? Now im thinking would 2 8600gt or gts be better then the 9600gt?

Also, the xigmatek 1283 is superb, better cooling and cheaper than the tuniq
