Upgrade Question

This is really an XP question. I am preparing to make an attempt to make a clean upgrade install to Windows 7. I have questions that I would like answered before I start. I am presently running Windows XP Home - the Upgrade version. I have read on forums that I have to have an earlier Windows OS CD to install before I upgrade to Windows 7, which in my case would be WindowsXP. Then a local electronics salesman type tells me that I can install XP without the earlier Windows OS installed. Can someone set me on the correct track here?

If you have XP installed right now, you just need to get an upgrade version of Windows 7. XP is the previous OS. You'll need to do a custom install.

You have a couple of conflicts in your description. Are you planning to upgrade your system from XP to 7 without a re-format or installing a clean version of Win7?

And why are you saying that you can install XP without an earlier version installed if you want to install 7?
